Gazette Article about Royal Mile

I promise that I will be posting about something other than Royal Mile within a few days, but the Gazette website has just posted an article about the status of the pub.  Among the more interesting tidbits is that a co-owner of Flanigan's Harp & Fiddle in Bethesda was in discussions in November with Mike Moore about becoming a partner in the restaurant, but that the talks fell through because of the poor financial position of the Royal Mile.

Other than that, there are some nice tributes and memories from people who have visited the Royal Mile over the years.

  1. I heard through the grapevine, on good authority, that one of the parties involved, not saying names, had a few legal issues. Had the owner had a little more of an on hands approach, things might have been different. I hope Mike can get things rolling again, Royal Mile has been my favorite bar for years.

  2. As far as the Royal Mile website goes, there were some issues with the old server and the original developer not releasing the domain. There is a new website on a new domain, and I hope the Royal Mile opens again. http://www.royalmilepub.net

  3. Other than some minor details being wrong: Vince Wilding does not organize the Burns suppers; Peter Walker (me) did not organize the jam (he merely currently runs it), and doesn't play "waterpipes" there, but border pipes.

  4. Peter, sorry to hear that some details in the article weren't quite correct. If you email the reporter who wrote it, I'm sure they'll make the corrections.
